Feminine Tattoos
Feminine tattoos became more socially acceptable, largely due to the many celebrities who publicly sported tattoos. Some of these were women, and so the female tattoo became more common and acceptable. Nowadays most people find female tattoo sexy and attractive, they certainly aren’t offensive anymore.
That having been said it’s still true that more men than women get tattoos and it’s even true that there is a little element of social rebellion inherent in a woman’s decision to get a tattoo, although this is less and less the case, tattoos are more like a fashion item these days.
Tattoo artists tell that women often come to tattoo shops after a major change in their lives. When a woman broke up with her boyfriend or just got divorced from her husband, sometimes she apparently feels the need to make a statement. Major events such as the birth of a child, the death of a close one or even a new job can cause a woman to take a tattoo.
An increasing number of women requests larger and more visible tattoos than before. The stigma towards tattooed women is disappearing and therefore it is more acceptable feminine tattoos and even when are visible.
Really women today are getting a ton of different types of tattoos and what you get is a matter of personal choice. There are many women that have chosen to get big bold tattoo designs that would typically be considered male tattoo designs like skulls or anchors. Yet there are just as many women out there that are getting smaller more traditionally feminine looking tattoos. One of the most exciting areas of tattoo design these days are when top tattoo artists take an old school tattoo and more typically a male themed tattoo design and change it to be more delicate and feminine looking. Again tattoos are a personal choice.
PLACEMENT
Another thing that can make a tattoo design more feminine looking is the placement on the body. For example a lower back or hip tattoo will make almost anything look more feminine in nature. Even a nautical star done in pink placed on a females hip will look very delicate and feminine. There are also many small designs that can fit well in these areas.
Women are also putting feminine tattoos on their ankles and shoulders more so now than in the past, when women would get ink on their breasts or thighs.
Women are generally more style conscious than men so are more discerning about what tattoo they want and where on their body they want it. Men mostly pick out a tattoo, choose a spot on their body and that’s it.
According to many tattoo artists - women are much better than men when getting tattooed.
Men like to think they are tough can withstand the pain. But when the needle hits their skin they pass out in the chair. Women, on the other hand anticipate the pain and have a higher tolerance.
